Mvelopes works differently to other software I have tried as it automatically downloads transactions from my online accounts, so I can see on a daily basis where I am in relation to my spending. You do have to pay a monthly subscription for the service but there are no licencing or upgrade costs. I know a reasonable amount about Mvelopes now as I have just finished 'user-testing' a new consumer finance site www.mybeanstalk.co.uk that launched this week. The site features Mvelopes plus it has a price comarison engine & Personal Finance Tips & Tools.
