I am an IBM-experienced software engineer who has been part of the successful development delivery of various IBM Messaging and SOA products to the marketplace, as well as testing those products and supporting them through Level 3 service. I have a wide range of technical experience, including various Java and XML technologies. I am looking for new horizons, including further opportunities for customer-facing experience. I am British, 26 years old, single, and am willing to relocate or travel.
My particular areas of professional interest are computer security and economics, particularly its relevance to IT. I am also interested in open source software (I have contributed to some open-source projects), information design, usability, and linguistics.
I hold an upper second class (2:1) Master's Degree in Computing (with an emphasis on Software Engineering) from Imperial College, London. IBM UK — September 2002 – Current — I am currently working at IBM Hursley Software Development Labs. I have worked in the following roles there:
As a result of these technical roles, I have gained a huge range of experience with many software products and technologies. I have also been involved in other activities. I have taught at University Skills Workshops on topics including Team Skills, Planning and Organising and Analytical Thinking. I consistently receive high praise from the students taught. I have helped to organise the Thinkpad Challenge, a significant and high-profile event for university students, as well as assisting at IBM for Schools events. These activities, in addition to my daily teamwork and negotiation in my technical roles, have allowed me to significantly develop my personal skills. I have had the opportunity to develop my skills with clients also, in my role as a service developer.
IBM UK — 2nd April 2001 – 28th September 2001 (6 months) — On placement from my university course, I was working at IBM in Hursley, working on MQSeries (now called WebSphere MQ). I was part of a team writing serviceability tools for MQSeries and researching other improvements to MQSeries serviceability. This research culminated in the production of a substantial report, written by myself, which was well-received. I was also responsible for running the team's webserver.

As well as development, the work involved presentations and meetings with company management for feedback to clients.
Skybridge (was Motivforce) — 14th July 1999 – 1st October 1999 (2½ months) — I worked as a web developer for company reward scheme intranets, using an ASP front-end with Microsoft IIS and Microsoft SQL Server. This also involved communication with clients via product managers, and their feedback was consistently positive.
